Basic Information
Sirius Alpacas is a family farm in Ohio that raises and boards alpacas for fun, therapy and profit. The farm uses its fleeces in the production of high-quality yarns and felted goods. Sirius Alpacas also imports fair-trade Andean items from Peru and Bolivia, offering the style and culture of South American goods while helping the farmers, artists and craftsmen of that region.Alpaca fiber is prized for its remarkably soft texture, light weight and warmth. A natural fiber that keeps the best qualities of wool, alpaca has far less prickle factor because each strand of baby and superfine fiber has far fewer microscopic barbs than sheep and lambs wool. Similar to cashmere, the highest quality alpaca fiber, baby alpaca, can be worn against the skin and has a silky smoothness. Because alpacas do not secrete lanolin as sheep do, most people can wear alpaca without allergic reactions.
